Go see “Come From Away”
I started crying during the opening number.
In November of 2019, I had the great privilege of seeing “Come From Away” at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre.
I had heard great things about this musical. I knew about the background story. I wasn’t prepared for how emotional I would become.
The opening number starts with Beulah Davis telling us what she was doing when she found out what happened on that day.
Then Constable Oz Fudge tells us what he was doing on that day.
Then Bonnie Harris says what she was doing.
In between snippets of information to help us understand what Newfoundland is and how Gander fits into that island, every member of the cast is telling us what they were doing on that day.
Because for anyone who was old enough to remember it, we all know what we were doing on that day. It is one of those universal questions.
As I was listening to this song, I remembered back to when I heard what had happened on that day.
