I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone blame the alcohol industry in 30 years of recovery. Our traditions say we have no opinion on outside issues which means it doesn’t matter what exists in the world, what matters is how we orient ourselves to the world. Just because I can’t drink safely doesn’t mean that no one can drink safely.

That’s why it’s counterproductive for families to use shame to curb drinking behaviour. Most humans can drink alcohol with few or any adverse consequences. Alcoholics, however, have an allergy of the body coupled with an obsession of the mind. That’s why we can’t drink safely.

Oh, and apologies for conflating what you were saying with comments that were made by others on your essay.
