In “An American President” with Michael Douglas, the President’s daughter suggests that he compliment her shoes on his first date with Annette Benning’s character. Before they go into dinner he looks down and says, “Nice Shoes” and she beams.

Now Benning’s character beams but the compliment was probably enhanced by dinner being an official State Dinner with the President of France. But do women really like to be complimented on their shoes? It seems oddly specific.
