My problem is that I really can’t pick up on signals, positive or negative. I’ve had my wife chastise me for carrying on with a woman who was flirting with me at church. I thought we were having a spirited discussion about single payer healthcare.

I’m sure different people have different opinions of what signals mean, but your list rings true to me on an intellectual level. I think I’ll create a checklist on my phone as a reference.
