Quite right.

Don Cherry is making two assertions. 1) people, in general, wear poppies less. 2) immigrants wear poppies less than native-born Canadians.

What I find most problematic with his statement is that there is no evidence to support it. Nov 11 started becoming an important date on my calendar in 1980 when I was in Army Cadets. Then from 1983 to 2019, as a member of the Army Reserves, it was still an important date.

I remember people back in 1980 saying how no one cares about Nov 11 anymore. I believed them because they were adults and I trusted that they weren’t just full of shit.

I think Cherry is factually incorrect. The people who observe Nov 11th are about the same as they have been for the last 40 years. All of the immigrants I know wear a poppy and are very supportive of Remembrance Day.

So in addition to stirring up racist sentiment, Cherry doesn’t know what the fuck he is talking about.

I wrote about Cherry too, but I decided to engage sarcasm. Don’t let the title fool you.
