This reminds me of the debate over which order to read the Vorkosigan series. I agree with you that starting with LW&W is best because it is far and away the best book. I would read it in order they were published because while the racism is manifest in THAHB, it is still a wonderful story of a child overcoming adversity. I'm inspired to reread the series after reading this. This will be the 8th or 9th time.
